How to choose a website partner in Italy without regret
A practical evaluation framework for comparing freelancers, agencies and platforms before you sign anything.
The cheapest quote and the most expensive quote can promise the same outcome. What actually predicts a good result is process, ownership and communication—not the logo on the proposal.
Ask about ownership before anything else
Confirm in writing that you will own your domain, hosting account, source code, content and any third-party accounts opened on your behalf. A partner who resists handing over admin access is a partner you will struggle to leave later.
Good sign
Access and exports handed over as standard practice
Warning sign
"We'll manage that for you" with no handover plan
Compare process, not just price
- How is scope defined, and what happens when it changes?
- Who writes the content, and in what language?
- How many working demos will you see before launch?
- What is the plan for accessibility, performance and testing?
- What happens after launch—is support scoped or open-ended?
Read the portfolio like a customer, not a spectator
Open real examples on a phone, on a slow connection if possible. Look for genuine business detail: prices, hours, honest photography, working forms—not just a polished homepage screenshot.
A short reference call is worth more than a long deck
Ask a past client one direct question: would they hire this partner again, and why or why not. The answer usually tells you more than the pitch does.
